The Grand Ville was the top of the line model of full sized Pontiacs in 1972, with the Bonneville, then the Catalina, the next steps down. According to The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975 there were just 2,213 Grand Ville convertibles produced in 1972. The Bonneville was not offered as a convertible, and there were 2,399 Catalina convertibles built that year.
The 455 V-8 was standard equipment in the '72 Grand Ville.

I'm the second owner of this 1972 Catalina; it came with the original window sticker and eight track stereo. I think what I like about my Pontiac the most is the way it cruises down the freeway at about seventy. It's almost like you're flying.”

“I purchased this car in January, 2006 after many years of trying. I once owned a car like this in British Columbia Canada back in 1988 and absolutely loved the full sized Pontiac. It was a 4 door hard top with a stock 350cu. I happened to meet an elderly gentleman back in 2002 who happened to have one parked in his garage. I asked him what he was doing with it and his reply was ‘I am not selling it’. After five years of negotiating he finally parted with the car. The car is all original minus the tires rims and radio. ”

“This is my 1972 Pontiac Catalina 400. The car was purchased in June of 2002. I believe we are the 4th owners. I have the original manuals but not the bill of sale. Since purchasing the car it has been repainted (sorry, couldn't stand the original khaki metallic) and has a new convertible roof and some associated hardware. New wheel well trim and rocker panel trim as well. It has been much easier finding parts than I expected, thanks to the internet and helpful suppliers. This was not the convertible I was looking for, but now that I have it, I can't imagine parting with it.”

“This is my recently acquired 72 Catalina convertible. She is showing 48,000 original miles and comes equipped with a 400 4bbl, power windows/door locks/seat, an 8-track AM/FM radio and Rally II's. She is a nice cruiser but I am gathering parts for a frame off in the near future.
My Catalina is definitely a keeper. Even my 14yo daughter likes it!”

“This Catalina convertible was purchased new in 1972. After passing owners a few times, I have tracked it down and bought it back. I haven't got all of the history on it, but most of it is original, as far as I can tell. It has 95,000 miles on it.”

“Hi there, my name is Paul and I am from the UK. I am currently trying to clean up a 1972 Pontiac Grand Ville. I have attached some pictures of the beast, which has had a small block Chevy motor fitted to ease the fuel consumption. Parts are quite hard to find for this car in the uk.. well damn near impossible and it needs the rear light surrounds, grill surround and a few other bits and bobs (interior light lenses). I am also having trouble with the power roof as it seems that there is a part missing so am looking for diagrams or any photographs of how it all goes together.
Anyway here are some pictures of the car next to a British classic :>) . Bit of a size difference eh?”

'72 Grand Ville owned by Chris in Wollongong, Australia. Thanks to recent changes in the law, Chris is able to operate his Grand Ville on the streets of Australia with the steering wheel on the left side of the car, the way nature intended cars to be (just kidding, rest of the world!). The 120,000 mile Pontiac is his daily transportation powered by the Pontiac 455 engine.

April 16, 2008: “I still have the car, but it now has 185,000 miles and is still going strong.”
