“I RECEIVED 2 RESPONSES, ONE OF THEM TRIED THE ‘CHECK OVERPAYMENT SCAM’
I ALMOST FELL FOR IT BUT I WAS SUSPICIOUS AT THE START. (NO QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CAR)
HE SENT A CHECK FOR TWICE THE AMOUNT I WANTED AND WANTED ME TO
SEND HIM $3000 THRU WESTERN UNION.”
Clues To A Possible Scam
1. Be suspicious of anyone who says he has to work through a third party
to get the money to you because he is ‘ out of the country . . . ’
2. Be suspicious of anyone who says they will (or does) send you a check
for more than your asking price and asks you to send back a check for the difference.
Example of "suspicious" e-mails received in response to an Auto For Sale Ad:
May, 2006:
>i will do a transfer into your acct . and u still i have to send the money left to my shipper.(50000). Ok
